Box seat beside the Danube

The Kulturfabrik Hainburg is situated in a breathtakingly beautiful position – right next to the Danube, with an imposing view of the untouched environment of the National Park Donau-Auen.

The landing stage is only 100 metres away.  Visitors can depart or arrive here, just as princes and emperors did in former times. An ideal starting point from which to discover the “Fabulous Worlds” of the Danube region Auland-Carnuntum and immerse oneself in the life of the ancient Romans in Carnuntum and the Baroque splendour of the castles in the  Marchfeld region.

A few steps via a footpath lead one to a further worthwhile object: to the medieval Wiener Tor (Vienna Gate), which leads into the exciting old medieval town of Hainburg. The starting point here is the elegantly designed square, which directly adjoins the Kulturfabrik Hainburg and which has a wonderful view over the Danube.

In summer open-air movie screenings are shown here, in Advent the square is the scene of a pleasing Advent programme.  From the square visitors can reach the gourmet oasis “fenestra”, which provides culinary delights in the Kulturfabrik Hainburg and has a breathtaking box seat right next to the Danube with its covered glass terrace.

Gateway to the past

The medieval Wiener Tor is the entrance to the picturesque old town of Hainburg. Sleepy, narrow streets, the well-preserved medieval fortress as well as architectural jewels from different historical epochs tell of Hainburg’s eventful past.

In the year 1050 the castle on the Schlossberg (the remains of which still watch over the town) was erected under Emperor Heinrich III. Busy periods of building activity under the Babenbergers were followed by many years of war.  Hungarians and Turks invaded the town several times, and the two World Wars also left traces.
